At the western end of the Campsie Fells, all roads meet at the small village of Drymen which sits peacefully in the hills overlooking the winding Endrick Water as it nears Loch Lomond.

The village has a long history, traces of which can still be seem In the parish church, built in 1771, and in the substantial ruins of Buchanan Castle, a former stronghold of the powerful Grahams of Montrose which dates back to the 17th-century.

Drymen is a good base to explore Loch Lomond, whose tranquil eastern shore is far better for walking and appreciating the loch's natural beauty than the western. The dead-end B837 from the village will take you half way along the east bank while if you'd prefer two wheels to two feet, you can rent bikes in the village in order to follow the Loch Lomond cycleway.
